It all started back in 1983 when Phil Walsh was working as Head of Physics in a London school.
Needing to buy some power supplies for his Science Department he looked through all the catalogues but was disappointed to find that the units on offer were too expensive. He therefore designed and built his own units. Over the following year several other schools saw his power supplies and ordered sets for themselves.
After moving to Essex, getting married and taking up a post in Colchester, Phil continued making power supplies and started manufacturing for Rapid Electronics and Timstar under the brand name Electrosound. At this time the range was expanded and Phil, and his wife Anna, moved into their first factory, whilst Phil was still working full time as a Physics teacher. Eventually the business grew so large that Phil gave up teaching and Anna left her post with the Essex Science Advisory team to devote all their energies to Electrosound.
Fast forwarding to 2012, Phil saw the opportunity to purchase IRWIN power supplies and incorporated the two brands into Irwin Science Educaton. Phil decided that he should move in a new direction with a modern, compact, user friendly range and so, in February 2018 he left and started up a new company, PSU Base. There he put all his 30+ years of experience in design and manufacturing into developing a new range of power supplies and other products with enhanced features, but still with the build quality and reliability for which his previous units were famous.
